What is FINMA?

The Swiss Financial Market Supervisory Authority (FINMA) is the Swiss government body responsible for financial regulation. This includes the supervision of banks, insurance companies, stock exchanges and securities dealers, as well as other financial intermediaries in Switzerland.

What is Circular 2023/1?

The FINMA circular 2023/1 titled "Operational Risks and Resilience - Banks" outlines the supervisory approach for managing operational risks, including those relating to information and telecommunication technology (ICT), cyber, and critical data.

When does Circular 2023/1 come into effect?

The regulation comes into effect on 1 January 2024, providing institutions with a two-year transition period (till the start of 2026) to demonstrate full compliance.
