ICANN-approved
Escode is an ICANN-approved Registry Data Escrow provider meaning we are trusted to help organisations meet requirements within ICANN's Registry Agreement.
Registry Data Escrow is a specialised data protection service. The service ensures that up-to-date copies of domain name ownership and contact details are held in escrow by a trusted, neutral third party, such as Escode. This data can only be accessed and released under predefined and controlled conditions, such as the failure of a registry. Registry Data Escrow services support both generic top‑level domains (gTLDs) and country‑code top‑level domains (ccTLDs), helping ensure continuity across the domain name system.
Generic top‑level domains (gTLDs) operate under ICANN oversight and are required to implement Registry Data Escrow in line with the Base Registry Agreement and associated specifications. Registry Data Escrow is a core requirement to support continuity of service and protect registrant data. Escode supports gTLD registry operators at all stages, from application and onboarding through live operations and long‑term compliance.
Country code top‑level domains (ccTLDs) are managed by national or regional authorities and are not subject to the same mandatory ICANN requirements. However, many ccTLD operators choose to implement Registry Data Escrow to strengthen operational resilience, continuity, and trust for registrants and stakeholders.
ICANN’s New gTLD application round represents the first opportunity since 2012 for organisations to apply for and operate new generic top‑level domains. For successful applicants, Registry Data Escrow is a mandatory requirement under the Base Registry Agreement and a critical part of demonstrating technical, operational, and organisational readiness.
As the largest and longest‑serving ICANN‑approved Registry Data Escrow provider, Escode has supported registry operators across previous gTLD application rounds and ongoing registry operations. We work closely with applicants, registry service providers, and advisers to ensure Registry Data Escrow obligations are clearly understood and implemented correctly from day one.
Whether you are planning a brand TLD, a sector‑specific extension, or advising on registry set‑up, Escode provides the experience, regulatory depth, and operational scale required throughout the full gTLD lifecycle.
